March 11, 2010 Missy Franklins's 22.49 leadoff leg on her team' s 200 free relay equals her career-best from last month's Colorado high school championships and is the second-quickest 50 all-time for a 13-14 girl.

Only Dara Torres' NAG-record 22.44 from the U.S. Ntionals in Gainesville in 1982 is faster.

In that race, incidentally, Dara handed Jill Sterkel he rrist-ever 50 free loss and survived a couple of false starts to win.

Dara didn't false start but otehrs did. She also used a track start that has since been adopted by any number of other top sprinters -- and was used by Rowdy Gaines when he won the Olympic 100 free @ LA two years later.
